Tasked with designing a monastery in the public park at Strawberry Mansion location in Philadelphia, PA, the monastery not only caters to the residing monks but also brings in and interacts with the surrounding neighborhoods.

 

The open courtyard in the center offers a large space for community markets, classrooms and a library are provided for afterschool programs, an indoor workshop, and agricultural fields draw in the neighborhood and offer a place of retreat to locals and visitors.
